What would Modernisation mean for you

“To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”

Buckminster Fuller

The term modernisation is trending in many different aspects of life. For some, the true meaning and implication of the word has not been understood resulting in poor outcomes that are unhelpful

Modernisation is not about making what we have better.  It is intended to totally transform a system from one model or state to an entirely new state.  In time the old state will not longer be relevant, useful or viable – for example the technological journey from VHS to DVD and then Streaming.

In the context of business this transformation includes all aspects of the organisation. There is misconception that workplace modernisation is only about the IT, when in reality for modernisation to succeed it has to incorporate all aspects of the business. This includes culture and experience of the staff, business decisions and how they are made and how the organisation does business.

It is accepted practice that there is a transition from one model to another, but the concept of meeting somewhere in the middle is not an option. Where organisations have tried this, they never realise the full value of the new model and will have compromised on the old ‘tried and tested’ way of doing things.  Often resulting in the organisation getting the worst of both.
